![]() ![]() I couldn't tell if they were store bought or made fresh. The flan was made fresh but the churros were not like any churros that I have had in the past. We each ordered a drink (sangria) which was fine. The beans and rice were on a separate plate, they were fine (average). Is that asking too much of a mexican restaurant? Maybe it is. The salsa seemed to be fresh made but the chips were out of a bag. The chips and salsa were put on the table quickly. It could have been an italian restaurant. Ok, fine, it doesn't look like a mexican restaurant. First impressions: The only thing to identify this as a mexican restaurant was the sombrero hanging over the door (see attached pic) and a small dish on the wall with a boy and a donkey. And I agree with another reviewer that perhaps it is a bit too much to ask to find a decent mexican restaurant in westchester. I think they define themselves as an authentic mexican restaurant. Outside of that I would have provided 4 stars 'Mariachis' showed up around 730 so we prolonged our stay for the live music which was well worth it! We WILL be back to eat and drink Margaritas at my new fave Mexican! I gave this restaurant 3stars because of the lack of Mexican decoration and dated look. Bartenders were sociable, sweet, and funny. It was so good we returned 2days later for HappyHour. It's casual attire, I saw people coming in sneakers, hooded sweatshirts, shorts. The side of rice and refried beans was pretty good. Like I said before, wow, this restaurant knocked this Mole out of the park! It was delicious!!The service was good and our food was good. I have tried Mole at different locations in my life- once in Mexico &once my ex's Mexican mom made it & both of those times, I couldn't find the hype everyone seemed to enjoy. My husband ordered skirt steak and it was made medium as he had asked and the plate had I believe it was chicken (I can't remember) but it had Mole sauce drizzled over. I ate a salad with beans in a balsamic dressing, which was surprisingly good. Maya Riviera does Mexican right, and their professional service makes for an even more pleasant experience. We had dinner during weeknight. If you are craving Mexican food and live within 30 minutes of this restaurant, maybe even 45 minutes, it's well worth your while to come here and skip the mediocre Mexican places in the area. Only downside this time was that the salsa didn't taste as good to me as it has on previous trips, but that was minor. The mariachi band is very good, if maybe a little too loud sometimes. The waiters are very nice, attentive, and make you feel welcome. I also want to mention how wonderful the service was. Everyone was really pleased with their meal and cleaned their plate. Others at my table had the enchilada trio, chiles rellenos with chicken, a chalupa special, and kids menu beef tacos. It was served with rice and black beans, not refried beans, which was great for me. The cheese melted on top of the burrito complemented the spinach very well. The generous portion of spinach was sauteed very nicely, garlicky and flavorful, not chewy or mushy. On this most recent trip I had a fantastic spinach burrito (about $14). This is my third trip back since then and I am pleased to say that it's still great. I last reviewed this restaurant in January 2014.
